Since April 2025, have fully electric cars had to pay vehicle tax?
The answer is yes. The EV exemption has now ended and electric cars now pay the standard rate like everyone else (our guide to road tax on electric cars has the full breakdown).
Just 40% of those surveyed knew this. Half (51%) said they were unsure and 9% said EVs still don't pay, so six in ten drivers can't answer the question "do electric cars pay road tax?" correctly.
