Meet Sam Dean

Service Advisor

Dick Lovett MINI Melksham

“The management team are always looking to recognise potential and create opportunities for people to progress.”

My Dick Lovett journey started when I completed my work experience at Ferrari during the 1st year of my A Levels. At this point I knew this was the industry for me.

My first position was Parts Apprentice in November 2018 and I completed my BMW Parts Advisor certification during this time. The Parts Department allowed me to develop my technical knowledge and gain an insight on a day-to-day within a BMW Retailer. I still use these skills on a daily basis. Training at the BMW Group Academy is a highlight of my time here.

After the year-long Apprenticeship course, I continued to work with the Parts team up until February 2022. At this point I was offered the opportunity to become a Service Advisor with MINI in preparation for our move to Melksham. Since then, I have transferred to the BMW Service Advisor team.

The transition from Parts to Service felt like natural progression for my career path. The role is very rewarding when you are able to help out clients and exceed expectations. This role also offered a more “customer focussed” environment. This is an element that I was passionate about within the Parts Department. I now work as a part of a seven-member, front of house team. We are always eager to help each other out and achieve great results due to this.

My current role involves communicating with customers who are visiting us for servicing and repairs, ensuring that they are kept informed about the progress of the car within the workshop. When this is complete, I am then responsible for generating an invoice for work carried out. This is accomplished alongside ensuring that the highest level of customer service is met every time.

My role is set to change in the future as I’m scheduled to join the MINI Sales team. I’m really looking forward to the next step in my career. I’m hoping to learn new skills in this role. This progressive transition has been made possible by the Management Team, as they are always looking to recognise potential and create opportunities for people to progress.

One of the largest challenges we are currently facing is the electrification of the motor industry. New technology is regularly being developed and released. We need to always keep on top of these new advances. Our new site in Melksham is fully optimised for these new vehicles and I believe this will help with the change of times ahead of us.

Within my time in the Group, some highlights have been attending launch and experience days with both the BMW and MINI brands. These are days where you learn about the brand and also on some occasions test our products around track. The last experience day that I participated in was held at Donnington Race Circuit in Derby. We had the opportunity to take the latest MINI John Cooper Works models on track.

Having a passion for cars since I can remember, it must be said that being surrounded by and driving some of the most prestigious cars on the road is certainly a highlight of my job. Another part that I enjoy is the rewarding nature of my role. Going above and beyond for customers and seeing them leave our Retailer with smiles is a brilliant benefit to my position.

Working at the Dick Lovett could be described as being part of a family. No matter what your job title is, whether it was during my time as a Parts Apprentice or as a Service Advisor, I have always been supported and recognised for my hard work and effort.
