Learn from the Experts: Work Experience Guidance

John Eyles - BMW Technician

John Eyles - BMW Technician

I am currently a qualified BMW Technician with IMI Level 3 and work at our BMW Swindon dealership. I like that Dick Lovett feels very family orientated and any request will be dealt with for you.

It was great to start my journey with work experience. I worked with one of the more Senior Technicians at MINI and a highlight was carrying out a clutch repair. My work experience was very relaxed and made me fall in love with wanting to be a Technician.

If you are coming to do your work experience with us, I would recommend to ask as many questions as possible. I have always been told through my career is no question is a silly question. A good work experience student is very punctual and polite. We look for someone who is confident but also not too confident! You need to listen to the Technicians and be open to learning.

Taylor Wilson - Apprentice Vehicle Technician

Taylor Wilson - Apprentice Vehicle Technician

I am currently an Apprentice Vehicle Technician and I have been with the company for just shy of 3 years! I like that every day is different with a vast variety of tasks to be completed.

My work experience was an eye opener, coming from a college to having real world experience and just seeing how different the workshop operates was mind blowing. I worked alongside a Senior Technician and carried out everything from basic servicing to removing dashboards and at the time I was 18 years old.

If you are looking for work experience, my advice would be to go for the opportunity if it arises with Dick Lovett, as it may lead to full time employment which it did in my case! We look for someone who is open and asks questions and listens to the person they are shadowing.
