Compact but with impressive power, a used BMW 2 Series is a sporty car that drives and handles responsively. Besides the BMW 2 Series Coupé and Convertible, the wider 2 Series range incorporates the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer, BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé, and the BMW 2 Series Gran Tourer.

The original BMW 2 Series launched in 2013, introducing the first generation two-door Coupé, replacing the 1 Series Coupé, with the 2 Series Convertible launching in 2014 as a replacement for the 1 Series Convertible.

A used BMW 2 Series Coupé or Convertible is a great option if you want a sports-style car with a practical edge. There are larger cars within the BMW range such as the 3 Series Touring and BMW X2, but an estate or an SUV isn’t for everyone.

For those who prefer agile handling, the BMW 2 Series will appeal. Although the Coupé and Convertible only have two doors (the Active Tourer, Gran Tourer and Gran Coupé have four), the interior space can host four people.

When looking at the selection of used BMW 2 series for sale, you should understand exactly what you want to buy. There are variations on engine size, engine type and trim specification that you need to consider.

There are four available trim levels on used BMW 2 Series. These are the SE, Sport, Luxury and M Sport, which delivers dynamic, racing style.

For racing performance on the road as well as design, the M240i has to be the pick of the engines. It delivers an output of 340 BHP, a top speed of 155 mph and 0-62 mph acceleration of 4.7 seconds. Other petrol and diesel engines are available, ranging from 1.5 litres to 3 litres.

Fuel efficiency (MPG) differs depending on what type of engine you have. If this is an important factor when buying a used BMW 2 series, check the MPG figures before choosing your model. Some newer BMW 2 series used vehicles are fitted with mild hybrid engines, which can help to increase fuel efficiency. The Active Tourer is also available as a Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) model.
