There’s a choice of petrol and diesel engines. The entry-level petrol model is a 1.6-litre that delivers 122bhp, is capable of a maximum top speed of 120mph and can hit 0-62mph in 10.3 seconds. A used MINI Paceman with the same 1.6-litre petrol engine with Cooper S trim ups the power to 190bhp and quickens the acceleration to 7.4 seconds; it’s also faster overall, with a top speed of up to 137mph.

Used MINI Paceman diesel models have either a 1.6 or 2.0-litre engine. The 1.6-litre MINI Cooper D delivers 112bhp, 0-62mph acceleration in 10.8 seconds and a maximum top speed of 117mph. If you want more power from a diesel, go for the MINI Cooper SD version of the Paceman. This has a 2.0-litre engine, capable of 143bhp and 0-62mph in 9.1 seconds. It can hit 125mph as its top speed.

At the very top of the range is the John Cooper Works (JCW) Paceman, which has a 1.6-litre petrol engine that delivers a punchy 218bhp, 0-62mph in just 6.9 seconds, and can reach a top speed of 142mph.
