Dick Lovett is well-known as an aspirational place to work. We represent some of the most iconic automotive brands in the world, so as you can imagine, we get a lot of requests for work experience!
Getting an insight into the real world of work is an invaluable opportunity for students, so we are happy to review applications which are in-line with our Work Experience process.
We are pleased to offer opportunities to join our teams in the Workshop or Bodyshop environment for students who are interested in pursuing a career as a Technician.
During these placements, you will shadow the team to find out more about what it is like to work in the automotive industry.
If the location you require is not listed, then we are not currently accepting work experience applications for that location at this time.
If you join us for Workshop Work Experience, you will be shadowing a Vehicle Technician in their day-to-day role. our Vehicle Technicians repair, maintain, and service some of the most prestigious cars in the world, including super cars, sports cars, electric, and hybrid vehicles.
On work experience you will see Vehicle Technicians inspecting cars and bikes to identify any issues for the customers. They will then fix any mechanical and electrical problems. During their week, they will also perform routine maintenance tasks such as oil service or MOT’s, ultimately ensuring vehicles are roadworthy and safe for our customers to drive.
You would need to bring a pair of safety boots with you to attend Work Experience for this role.
Our Bodyshops take care of all body repairs, from minor scratches and dings to major accident repairs for BMW, MINI, Ferrari, Aston Martin and Porsche.
There are three types of work at the Bodyshop and on work experience you will get to see them in action!
MET (Mechanical Electrical Trim) includes tasks such as repairing and replacing electrical components, such as headlights, and trim parts, such as mirrors and door handles.
Panel beating is the process of repairing damaged metal body parts, such as fenders, doors, and quarter panels.
Paint spraying includes sanding down the surface of the repair area, masking it off, and then using a spray gun to apply multiple thin coats of paint, allowing each one to dry before applying the next.
You would need to bring a pair of safety boots with you to attend Work Experience for this role.
We accept Work Experience applications for our Workshop and Bodyshop between September and March each year.
Download and complete our Application Form and apply online during the Work Experience application window.
This year our Work Experience application page will go live on 1st September 2025 and close on 1st March 2026. Only applications submitted through the correct channel will be reviewed for the opportunities.
If you have missed the window, don’t worry! You can apply for Work Experience next year during the same time period in 2026.
We aim to deliver an exceptional service and believe that our front of house teams should be able to give their customers their full and undivided attention. Our Sales and Service teams must handle confidential documents for our customers, so it is not always appropriate or possible to deliver an experience of the real world of work in these departments.
The placements we offer are typically Monday-Friday between the hours of 9am and 5pm. We can accept shorter requests, but we are unable to accept ongoing placements (for example one day per week).
We usually start our Apprentice Recruitment Programme in March, so then are unable to accept further applications for Work Experience while we focus our time and attention to our next intake of Apprentices.
Apprenticeship placements vary each year depending on the needs of the business. We only accept applications for Apprenticeships through our official website in-line with our application process.
We support local schools with various events throughout the year.
The main events we support include Careers Talks to Year 10 students and Careers Fairs aimed at Year 11 students and above.
We receive a high volume of requests to attend school events, and unfortunately we are not able to attend them all, especially during National Apprenticeship Week and National Careers Week.
We do organise our own Open Events which take place in March or April each year, and we would recommend signing up to our mailing list for updates about careers events by emailing recruitment@dicklovett.co.uk.
The Lovett Foundation supports care experienced individuals across the South West and in Wales. We regularly organise visits to dealerships, accommodate work experience, and can even help with CV or Cover Letter writing.
If the location you require is not listed, then we are not currently accepting work experience applications for that location at this time.
