Firstly, this is a plug-in hybrid model and therefore the BMW XM requires charging in order to utilise the electric-only drive mode. Plug-in models have advanced rapidly in recent years, with BMW’s flagship hybrid M SUV charging from 0-100% in around 4.25 hours using a home chargepoint This is more convenient than a standard wall socket which can take 21 hours without an adapter.

As a side note, the BMW XM does not support rapid DC charging. This is the same for most plug-in hybrid electric vehicles as the charging infrastructure is designed around AC charging, with a maximum charge rate of 7.4 kW.

The next point of consideration should be which trim you want to go for, be it the entry-level XM 50e which races from 0-62 mph in 5.1 seconds, the standard model which completes the sprint in 4.3 seconds, or the super speedy XM label which covers the same distance in 3.8 seconds. Range-topping models also offer unique design differences such as a red and black leather interior. The model you go for will depend on your need for speed and the design highlights you prefer.
