Is the BMW Z4 practical enough for everyday use?

Most definitely. The soft-top retracts in just ten seconds, even on the move, making the transition from open to closed effortless, whatever the weather. Boot space sits at 281 litres, which is competitive for a two-seat roadster, and the cabin is well-equipped and comfortable enough for daily driving. A used BMW Z4 isn't just a weekend car. It's a sports car you can live with every day.

What engines are available on the used BMW Z4?

The current generation used BMW Z4 for sale offers three petrol engines. The sDrive20i produces 197bhp with 0-62mph in 6.6 seconds, the sDrive30i delivers 258bhp and 0-62mph in 5.4 seconds, and the range-topping M40i produces 340bhp with 0-62mph in just 4.6 seconds. All three are paired with an eight-speed automatic as standard. Speak to our Dick Lovett team for guidance on which variant suits your driving style, or browse our approved used BMW Z4 stock to see what's currently available.

What is the difference between a used BMW Z4 M Sport and M40i?

Every used Z4 M Sport comes well-equipped as standard, with the electric folding roof, BMW Live Cockpit Professional, 18-inch alloys and leather seats across the range. The M40i builds significantly on this, adding M adaptive suspension, M Sport brakes with blue callipers, electric memory seats, and heated seats and steering wheel as standard alongside its more powerful six-cylinder engine. For the most driver-focused, most thoroughly specified used BMW Z4 for sale, the M40i is the one to go for.

What does Approved Used BMW Z4 mean?

Every BMW Z4 approved used at Dick Lovett comes with a genuine manufacturer-supported 12-month, unlimited-mileage warranty, covering repair and labour costs for a range of warrantable items, including the battery and exhaust. Each car is prepared to BMW's own standards before reaching our forecourt. It's the confidence of a new-car purchase with the value of the used-car market. Browse our current approved used BMW Z4 stock or visit one of our dealerships in Bristol, Hungerford, Melksham or Swindon to find out more.

Used BMW Z4 Cars For Sale

Top-down cruising in a stylish sports car loaded with hi-tech features and with rapid acceleration, there’s a lot to love about a used BMW Z4. That it’s enormous fun to drive is no surprise at all, but the Z4 is more than just a weekend car best used during the summer. It’s perfectly positioned for everyday driving.

The joy of driving a roadster is clearly to embrace open-air motoring. When the weather isn’t pleasant enough to do that, though, don’t worry. While older models had a hard top, the soft top on the newer BMW Z4 is light and easy to operate; it takes just ten seconds to retract, even when you’re on the move. You can quickly switch from top up to top down as you wish.

Whether that roof’s up or down, performance is smooth, with agile and responsive handling – especially if you opt for the M40i model. All used BMW Z4 for sale models have an eight-speed automatic transmission. Driving dynamics can be further enhanced with the M Sport differential – which optimises traction, stability and grip – available on M40i models, M Sport braking and variable sport steering.
The exterior design includes the famous BMW front kidney grille and twin exhaust tailpipes.

The interior is plush, with leather seats as standard. M Sport seats, with integrated headrests, are fitted in some used BMW Z4 models, with ambient lighting also available.

In the cabin, selected models have a 10.3-inch infotainment touchscreen that can also be operated using the iDrive rotary controller in the centre console, if you prefer that to tapping the screen. On newer models, satellite navigation, DAB radio, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Bluetooth are all built into the infotainment system.

As a two-seater car, there is no space for passengers in the rear, but the boot is pleasantly large for a vehicle of this type. The capacity is 281 litres, which compares well against other roadsters.

Buy a used BMW Z4 for sale from a Dick Lovett dealership and get a genuine manufacturer-supported 12-month warranty included. This includes unlimited mileage protection in the event of a vehicle breakdown. It also covers repair and labour costs on a number of warrantable items, including battery and exhaust.

There isn’t a confusing list of trim options with a BMW Z4 approved used, which makes any buying decisions much simpler.

There are three different engines available on newer models (the E89, from 2009 to 2016, had seven engine variants), all petrol, all automatic, and all with manual and sport driving modes. The sDrive20i is the base, or entry-level, model. With a 2.0-litre engine, it delivers 197bhp with 0-62mph acceleration in 6.6 seconds and a top speed of 149mph.

Next up is the sDrive 30i, which has a larger 3.0-litre engine delivering a more powerful 258bhp, 0-62mph in 5.4 seconds, and capable of a top speed of 155mph.

The top model variant is the M40i, which can record 0-62mph in 4.6 seconds, thanks to a 3.0-litre six-cylinder engine that provides 340bhp. It has the same maximum speed as the sDrive30i, 155mph, but if sharper and more exhilarating acceleration is on your wishlist, this is the model for you.

Trims are the M Sport and top-of-the-range M40i. The standard spec is good; all models have the electric folding roof, the BMW Live Cockpit Professional infotainment setup, 18-inch alloy wheels, and other features.

Step up to the M40i, and M adaptive suspension is added, as well as M Sport brakes with blue callipers. Electric seats with memory function are also part of the M40i trim. Heated seats and a heated steering wheel are standard on used BMW Z4 M40i models.
BMW offers a selection of packs as options, so as you consider used BMW Z4 cars for sale, look out for their inclusion. They may add to the price of the vehicle, but they also add to a more enjoyable, comfortable, and safer drive.

Options include the Visibility Pack (Adaptive LED headlights, High-Beam Assistant), Technology Pack (Head-up display, Parking Assistant, Harman/Kardon Surround Sound Audio System) and Driving Assistant Pack (Active Cruise Control, Driving Assistant).
The Shadowline Plus Pack, available on M40i models, adds exterior design elements such as 19-inch black alloy wheels, black mirror caps, and Shadowline Exterior Trim.

Dick Lovett has a range of car finance deals to help you finalise your purchase. We provide both Personal Contract Purchase (PCP) and Hire Purchase (HP) agreements – read more about how each type of plan works in our guide to car finance.
