Going electric has never been easier.
From 1st of April, 2025, first year Vehicle Excise Duty rates, more commonly known as road tax, are increasing significantly. Buy your new BMW before the deadline to save up to £2,745 in tax.
If you’re considering purchasing an internal combustion engine model, you can avoid the hefty first year road tax payment increases that can be as high as £5,490 for models like the M8 Competition and X7 M60i.
The rate for these vehicles is doubling on the 1st of April, 2025, if you were to purchase before then, you’d only pay £2,745 – saving you £2,745 in tax.
Electric vehicles will also be impacted. Whilst first year road tax is only going to be £10, EVs priced over £40,000 and registered after 1st of April, 2025, will incur an additional £425 per year charge (also known as the luxury vehicle tax/expensive car supplement).
However, if you purchase an EV priced over £40,000 before this date, you'll retain the exemption from the luxury vehicle tax and only pay the standard road tax rate of £195 per year. This could save you up to £2,125 between your 2nd and 6th year of ownership, if you were to keep the car for that period.
