1977 Ferrari 308 GTB Vetroresina
Some Ferraris are rare; others are truly significant. Chassis 21253 is both.
First registered in August 1977, this Ferrari 308 GTB Vetroresina is believed to be the very last right-hand-drive fibreglass-bodied example built. Finished in stunning Argento Auteuil with its original leather interior still in place today.
Its story is documented by an extraordinary history file covering virtually its entire life. Included are copies of the original order form and supplying dealer invoice, MOT records spanning from 1987 to 2017, and a vast collection of invoices detailing maintenance, repairs and specialist care throughout its 49 years. The file also contains the invoices relating to its meticulous restoration by renowned Ferrari specialists Foskers, commissioned by the current owner with the aim of returning the car to factory-correct condition.
The results speak for themselves. With just seven owners from new and fewer than 48,000 miles covered, this is a wonderfully preserved and sympathetically restored example, presented exactly as Ferrari intended.
Introduced in 1975, the 308 GTB succeeded the Dino 246 GT and established the template for every mid-engined V8 Ferrari that followed. Penned by Pininfarinas Leonardo Fioravanti, its timeless styling remains instantly recognisable today. Early Vetroresina models are especially sought after thanks to their lightweight fibreglass construction, with fewer than 1,000 examples produced before Ferrari switched to steel bodywork.
Power comes from Ferraris 2.9-litre quad-cam V8, producing around 255 bhp and delivering exhilarating performance, a top speed of approximately 155 mph and a soundtrack that has become part of Ferrari legend. More importantly, the 308 GTB laid the foundations for iconic successors including the 328, 348, F355 and 360 Modena.
