If your Aston Martin is three or more years old, it needs to have an MOT every year.
You need to have an MOT on, or before, the same date each year to maintain a current certificate. You can book it up to a month, less a day, before your existing MOT expires, but you can leave it beyond that date. It’s important to book your Aston Martin MOT so it’s legally roadworthy.
When your Aston Martin has passed its test, you’ll be issued with a new MOT certificate, valid for a further 12 months.
An Aston Martin MOT is a thorough inspection covering over 150 different checks to determine the overall safety of your car. These include all the lights, suspension, brakes, tyres – looking at tread depth – steering, exhaust emissions and seat belts. An MOT even includes parts that you might think are minor, such as windscreen wipers and the horn, to confirm that they work correctly.
Your Aston Martin will need to take its first MOT three years after the date of its first year of registration. All cars are exempt until that point.
At Dick Lovett, an Aston Martin MOT costs just £54.85. If your car fails its MOT and needs repairs in order to be re-tested and pass, there may be additional costs to consider. But, we’ll always let you know what these will be before starting the work.
During an MOT, any defects or faults discovered with your vehicle will be categorised as either minor, major or dangerous. A major or dangerous fault will result in your car failing its MOT; minor faults won’t mean your car fails, but these will be recorded on your pass certificate and it’s your responsibility to monitor these and get them repaired. These are typically known as ‘advisories’.
If your car fails its MOT, you shouldn’t drive it. You could be fined up to £2,500, be banned from driving and get 3 penalty points for driving a vehicle that has failed its MOT because of a ‘dangerous’ problem.
If it’s failed with major faults, these need to be repaired before you can drive it again, though you are able to use your vehicle to drive to a garage for those repairs. You can also drive your car if you’ve had the MOT early and your current certificate is still valid – but you’ll need to get those repairs done, and re-tested, to get a new certificate.
If your car has failed its MOT because of dangerous problems, it can’t be driven at all until repairs are made. When your current MOT certificate has expired, you will need a new one to be able to continue to drive your car. It won’t be deemed legal and roadworthy until it passes.
If your Aston Martin needs an MOT, get in touch with us today or contact our servicing centre in Bristol on 01173 216 705 to make an appointment.
We understand that being without your car during an MOT can be inconvenient, so we offer the use of a courtesy car, or a collection and delivery service from your home or place of work, to make life as easy as possible*.
